Door Services

Our experienced team will provide custom door solutions that fit the needs of your business.

Repair & Replacement

Door Doctors pioneered innovative methods to increase the longevity, security and function of the frames we install. Our certified welders rework and repair existing frames and, in most cases, retain their existing fire rating.

Field Modifications

Door Doctors technicians can modify door height and width, and assist in the conversion of hardware preps. This includes making a frame wider or narrower as conditions dictate. This also includes fine-tuned modification of out-of-level or out-of-plumb conditions.

Life Safety Compliance

Our experienced door technicians assess, document and offer solutions to bring life-safety openings into compliance before official inspections occur. Door Doctors work closely with reporting agencies, and can be onsite during inspections.

Electronic Access

We investigate, document and supply hardware that will meet specified requirements. We specialize in electronically-activated locking systems that tie into access control systems, and our technicians can work with customized access systems.

For decades, the Door Doctors have worked in a wide range of industries. We specialize in custom projects built with your organization’s unique needs in mind.

About Us

Chicago Hollow Metal, known throughout the Midwest as The Door Doctors, has been modifying, repairing and installing doors since 1987. Tom Johnson, an army veteran and union carpenter, founded the company after identifying a need for quality work within the door and hardware field. As demand for his expertise grew, he hired union technicians who share his ethos of excellence. Some of those field techs are still with the company along with a younger generation that includes Tom’s sons and the son of one of our original Door Doctors. Meanwhile, our reputation for quality door work has grown throughout the Chicagoland region and the Midwest.

Door Doctors’ technicians field-modify installed openings. We install and repair commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-unit doors, along with their frames and hardware. Often, we can modify or repair an existing opening, saving our customers the time, money and inconvenience of installing new door systems. Look on our Services page to see the repairs and modifications we commonly do. We also appreciate the unusual job, and all our technicians pride themselves on their ability to solve any door-related issue. What’s more, we can also design, supply and implement the finished products, with a complete turnkey package.

We have offered our customers valuable Life Safety Compliance field surveys since day one. These inspections are performed by field technicians and project managers that have extensive knowledge of NFPA 80 and 101 codes and requirements. Survey sheets are completed on Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets to enable easy (non-propriety) access by all building managers and owners.

Every one of their employees are concerned on doing the best job possible for us. It is refreshing to see that they do not just treat us as a “job” but rather an ongoing customer.
